Program Overview

The PSW Bridging Program is designed to further enhance the skills and knowledge of experienced Personal Support Workers. This comprehensive program combines theoretical training with practical experience, offering students the opportunity to build on their existing expertise. The curriculum is divided into multiple modules, focusing on advanced care techniques and professional development. Students will participate in both supervised clinical placements and community volunteer work, providing them with diverse, hands-on experience in various healthcare settings. Osilla facilitates all placements to ensure students gain valuable real-world experience and meet industry standards.

Responsibilities & Duties
    • Perform core caregiving tasks, including attending to personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility needs.
    • Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills suitable for various care settings.
    • Adhere to health and safety protocols, such as infection control and emergency procedures.
    • Maintain ethical standards and professional conduct within healthcare settings.
    • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure safety and provide a supportive environment.
    • Conduct a range of rehabilitative tasks, manage linen and laundry, and assist with personal hygiene tasks, including specimen collection for medical tests.
    • Monitor and record vital signs, as well as assist with patient movement and ambulation.
    • Provide specialized care for palliative and hospice patients and teach life skills.
    • Report clinical and behavioral changes, maintain records, and support patients and families emotionally.
    • Help with meal prep, dietary planning, and maintaining cleanliness, as well as apply therapeutic techniques like hot and cold applications.
    • Have knowledge of CPR/First Aid and other common medical procedures.
